This multi-product manufacturer has been operating in Madagascar for more than 10 years and is the sole supplier of concrete blocks in the greater Nosy Be area. In addition to producing the original concrete blocks, a range of other products are manufactured in its 64m² fabrication workshop. The workshop was built and equipped in 2007 for the fabrication of precast reinforced beams for hollow flooring blocks. MAP also fabricates steel trusses, industrial doors, decorative latticed security windows, wood-fired cooking stoves, and aircraft boarding steps. An additional workshop/store is used for extended steel fabrication. Production capacity has increased significantly since the initial modest production of blocks, as has demand for MAP’s extended range of products. The company is now seeking capital to purchase additional machinery and further boost productivity. MAP Sarl is owned and run by Mike Pilling, a British engineer with decades of experience in the construction industry.
The creation of the Steel cluster positions Aveng Steel as a leading player in the industry, underpinned by three business units which are leaders in their selected fields: Aveng Steel capabilities range from the supply of steels, automotive materials, special steel and reinforcing bars, as well as pipe and tube manufacturing and steel fabrication. The Aveng Steel Fabrication plant has supplied platework and structural steel fabrication to mines and the power industry. Brief history The 1900 steel trade industry in South Africa was boosted by new factories and workshops smelting iron, reworking scrap metal and other related processes. However, it wasn’t until the 1950s that new, cheaper methods of making steel were explored. From that point on, business surged and several major players in the steel trade industry emerged. By 1972 Steeldale and the merchandising operation Trident Steel had been established. Although at the time they were operating independently, both companies had a vision to play central roles in the developing economy. Steel lies at the heart of industrial development. The production of crude steel in the 20th century rose at an impressive rate. As governments invested more and more money into infrastructure, industry and transport, so the demand for steel rose. The strength, toughness and ductility of the alloy have defined how humans live their lives: the impressive feats of railways, roads, bridges and skyscrapers, and the personal use gained from electricity cables, medical equipment and household and kitchen appliances. In South Africa, Trident Steel was amongst the first traders to acknowledge the wider benefits of a diversified range of alloy products. From the late 1980s, with South Africa in the grip of Apartheid and with the government driving an isolationist agenda, Aveng took a decisive step away from the status quo by actively embracing global trends and innovations. Buoyed by the import of new technologies from overseas industry leaders, Trident Steel led the way for a significant national industrial expansion, most notably in the automotive industry. Today Aveng Steel was established with effect from 1 July 2013 to combine Aveng’s steel businesses into one operating entity and leverage their collective value. The business activities of Aveng Trident Steel, Aveng Steeledale and Aveng Steel Fabrication (ASF, previously DSE Steel Fabrication) have been consolidated into Aveng Steel. Geographic expansion Aveng Trident Steel, in partnership with Aveng Steeledale, has established a new processing plant in the Tete province of Mozambique to serve coal mining and related infrastructure development in the province. The business has strengthened its regional network of branches in South Africa and is extending all of its offerings into other markets in Southern Africa to support its drive to improve its processing capacity and service delivery. Environment Aveng Trident Steel is progressively implementing the group environmental framework as well as the energy saving project. A successful ISO 14001 recertification audit was completed in June 2013.

Establishing a manufacturing business that is immersed within the mining, construction and railway industries requires steady growth, adaptability and invention. Aveng Manufacturing had its beginnings in familiar surroundings, but through embracing these qualities it unlocked new territories and now stands as a leader in its field. Brief history When companies such as Grinaker and LTA began periods of rapid expansion in the 1970s, the need for reliable suppliers warranted the formation of new manufacturing companies. Over the years, numerous companies were established to supply these industries with high quality products, services and solutions. The demand for specialised products grew steadily. Railway construction entailed the need for landscaping. Mineral processing required valves for water and effluent. New building designs demanded the design and installation of curtain walling over claddings systems and specialist shop front glazing. As a series of mergers and acquisitions unfolded during the 1990s and early 2000s, the Aveng Group began to benefit from a consolidated manufacturing division. In 2007 Aveng Manufacturing was reorganised to offer a comprehensive product range, management for the construction and maintenance of railway lines, curtain walling, process control instrumentation, process system solutions as well as engineering, construction, mining and water projects. Aveng Manufacturing consists of six Business Units: Aveng Automation and Control Solutions (ACS), a leader in South Africa in the field of process control instrumentation, process systems solutions, machinery health monitoring equipment and services, engineered fire and gas detection systems and solutions; Aveng Infraset, which manufactures concrete products for the infrastructural market from rail to landscaping; Aveng Duraset, which manufactures steel and concrete products for the mining industry and geotechnical products to the construction industry; Aveng Dynamic Fluid Control (DFC), a manufacturer of valves for the water, effluent and the mineral processing industry; Aveng Rail, which builds sophisticated range of rail machines, constructs and maintain railway lines for its rail customers; and Aveng Facades, a specialist division that offers the design, manufacture, supply and installation of curtain walling over cladding systems and specialist shop front glazing solutions. Aveng, leaders in infrastructure for more than 125 years: Has a presence in more than 30 countries Employs over 30 000 people Builds iconic structures and landmarks Safety is paramount, never to be compromised in the persuit of any objective.
