C.N. Smith Farm, located in the town of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, has been a family owned and operated farm for over 80 years. We are the third generation of farmers carrying on the tradition of providing fresh, local fruit and produce while maintaining open space and farmland in our community... The farm was originally started as a potato farm in the 1920's by Carl Smith on 20 acres. Numerous changes over the years included the addition of livestock and poultry. In the late 1950's our father, Carlton Smith, a graduate of Stockbridge School of Agriculture, decided to take a different direction by raising strawberries and plants for wholesale and pick your own. Some eighty years later, the latest generation of Smiths is continuing the family business on 90+ acres of fruit and vegetable crops. In addition to our pick your own apples and berries, we cultivate and harvest our own tomatoes, asparagus, lettuce, corn, peaches, plums, nectarines, pears, etc. We encourage you to see and taste first hand the fruits of our labor in the hopes that everyone can enjoy the experiences of visiting the fast disappearing American family farm..
Ledgewood Farm is located on NH Route 171 in Moultonborough,NH on the northeastern side of Lake Winnipesaukee in the foothills of the Ossipee Mountains. We have been raising vegetables and bedding plants since 1957. We currently have twenty acres of vegetables and small fruit, a roadside stand, and more than foury thousand square feet of greenhouses. The greenhouse space consists of fourteen unheated tunnels and seven heated greenhouses. The unheated tunnels are used to grow early season vegetables and cut flowers for sale at the farm stand. The heated houses are used to grow our own seedlings for field production, greenhouse tomatoes, and red peppers... Ledgewood Farm Greenhouse Frames began in 1987. The purchase of some simple equipment and applying some Yankee ingenuity was the beginning of a very successful supplement to the farm. Our philosophy has not changed since the beginning. We provide a quality product at a fair price, advise and guide the customer at no charge, and constantly on the lookout for new and better ways to utilize the frames and technology that develops. We have a strong belief that greenhouse production is going to continue as a mainstay for successful farming well into the future and we will be leading the way with insight and hard work... Ledgewood Farm, located in New Hampshire, manufactures pipe frame greenhouses and high tunnels. The frames are used by all areas of agriculture for plant protection, livestock housing, and storage.

"Olana Farm is one of the most beautiful and productive places I have ever visited. The fruits and veggies are always of the highest quality and I know the farmers care for the land with utmost love and respect, using strictly organic practices... Located on the beautiful north shore of the Garden Island of Kaua'i, our farm is close to many of the island's favorite locations yet still feels far enough away. Our rural neighborhood is a few miles from the community of Kilauea in the Waipake ahupua'a. We are a short walk from the beach surrounded by beautiful mountains... At Olana Farm, we strive to create and nurture a place of abundant beauty where gardens, gardeners, healers, guests and lovers of life can come together to manifest our shared vision. We honor the natural world through sensitive land stewardship, sustainable living practices, and exploring the healing power of plants and nature.
Developing a local island food system is a challenge. However, it is one that we at Sejah Farm are willing to take on, since it is a part of the islands agriculture resurgence. The territory's agricultural industry has been without any significant governmental involvement for the last 47 years and it is now slowly changing. Additionally, the need for our community to encourage our farmers by asking them to grow what they want could help deter the need to import certain products. A local island food system development would require; however, looking at the areas which encourage this kind of activity. One is marketing local products, which requires a consistent supplier of any one commodity and making it available to the community on demand... Sejah Farm is located on the island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands - the largest of the three sister islands, which include St. Thomas and St. John, territories of the United States Virgin Islands. Sejah Farm is situated in what we call the âfarm belt' of the island. Its fifteen acres of farm land, consists of eleven acres that are used as grazing for sheep and goats; three acres that are used for vegetable crop production; and, three quarter acres used for poultry production. We raise Boer Goats and Boer Goats crosses for sale, local fresh meat, and vegetables for local and off-island demands. We provide agricultural technical assistance, seminars, education, training, and consultation to farmers and the community.
The Organic Farm is committed to education, research, and extension. As a teaching farm the primary goal is to pass on the skills necessary to grow organic fruits and vegetables in an intensive small-scale environment. The farm is available to the WSU scientific community to conduct organic research projects. In addition, the farm strives to provide fresh produce to local food banks and non-profits... Our mission is to discover and develop principles of plant and soil sciences through scientific investigation and to apply these principles to the development of new crops and varieties, and new crop, soil, and water management practices in agricultural, urban, and natural environments; to teach principles and applications to undergraduate and graduate students; provide experiential training and learning opportunities for students to work with world-class faculty; promote diversity of ideas, people, and cultures; and to disseminate accumulated knowledge through resident instruction, distance and continuing education, extension, publications, and professional associations... Our vision is to be leaders in scientific exploration, teaching, and extension of plant and soil sciences and in the training of future scientists to improve the quality of life and long-term sustainability of agricultural systems.

We finally reached a point, around 2011, where we felt like we knew what we were doing, though the learning never stops. We mastered summer crops first, then finally got the hang of production in winter. We gained many "customers" who we are proud to call our friends, both former workmates as well as growing families and academic professionals. We still retain connections to the university community in Davis, as the majority of our supporters live there. Through them we have come to realize that however small our efforts by comparison to much larger local farms, we have made a positive difference... Our farming activities have taken on a vocational aspect. We aren't interested in selling food; you can buy food from any farm or even those places called grocery stores. What we are interested in is offering a unique connection to the gargantuan subject of food: How people used to eat it, how the changes happened, why nutrition and health have slipped away from many, how and why the commercial food supply became skewed, and how we can take back the basic human right to have fresh, unadulterated food. The food that was raised 150 years ago was made "better"â¦.in some ways. I find over and over that lost flavors and colors are in those old varieties, and that many of them yield more than enough for our purposes while imparting a superior culinary experience. I'm deeply attracted to truly ancient food varieties; the crowns of my collection are Ethiopian Blue Tinge Emmer and Black Kabuli chickpeas, which date back to pharaonic times and beyond. There is something about tasting a 3500 year old food item and understanding that it would have been known to an ancient Egyptianâ¦.food is the history of all humanity, and I believe it is foolish to abandon old wisdom... We put far too much care and effort into choosing, growing, harvesting and packing the food we produce for you to have our work distill down to "food in exchange for money." Being a member with us means, if we have it and you want it, it is yours. If we can teach it and you want to learn it, we will make that happen. You support us with your membership to help us keep the lights on, and to the extent that we are able, we support you in return with a wealth of knowledge and information andâ¦..amazingly interesting food. We reached out to have a lifestyle that revolves around food and all its possibilitiesâ¦.we call it a Foodstyle, and we want to open the door to you having one as well. Become a member, and the wealth of our farm, in food, is yours as well. Farm membership centers around subscribing to receive our produce boxes, but it extends far beyond "getting a box" for anyone who is interested. Most homeowners cannot manage a large fruit tree orchard, multiple vegetable gardens, raising grains, and a largish flock of chickens. We can, and we wish to connect with those of you who embrace what we are trying to achieve here. If how to make heirloom peach jam, or discovering what fresh foods are most nutritious, creating your own food preservation project, having pet chickens, or learning about the farming side of life is your idea of interesting stuff, you may find we are a perfect fit. Our membership is limited for a reasonâ¦to our knowledge, no other farm does anything quite like this, which is why we seek out members who are just as passionate about farm to forkâ¦or at least interested in investigating the subject.
As the number of farms began to dwindle so did the need for replacement livestock. The Westons began a dairy, milking registered Holsteins to supplement the fading livestock business. Soon the days of small dairy farms would begin to end as well, which caused the family farm to adapt yet again.
