Boundless Southern Africa is a forward-thinking marketing initiative that promotes seven transfrontier conservation areas (TFCAs) within southern Africa to potential investors and tourists around the world. A TFCA is defined as 'the area or component of a large ecological region that straddles the boundaries of two or more countries, encompassing one or more protected areas as well as multiple resource use areas'. What makes the concept so progressive is that it is marketed in terms of ecosystems and not in terms of political or geographical boundaries. It unites African nations as viable and worthy collective tourist destinations and thereby boosts economic growth. It also promotes greater collaboration between African countries when it comes to conserving and protecting this continent’s rich and extraordinary environments, nature, heritage and cultures. Boundless Southern Africa is also a positive response to the African Legacy Programme that was devised by the 2010 Local Organising Committee. Launched at the 2008 Tourism Indaba in Durban, Boundless Southern Africa is the marketing brand chosen by nine southern African countries to represent some of the best tourism products the region has to offer, namely: /Ai-/Ais – Richtersveld Transfrontier Park – South Africa, Namibia Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park – Botswana, South Africa Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area – Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe Greater Mapungubwe Transfrontier Conservation Area – Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe Great Limpopo Tranfrontier Park – Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe Lubombo Transfrontier Conservation Area – Swaziland, Mozambique, South Africa Maloti Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation Area – Lesotho, South Africa
Eastcape Midlands College (EMC) is paving the way for young professionals. The college has six campuses: four in Uitenhage, where the administrative head office is located, one in Graaf-Reinet and another in Grahamstown. Educational offerings and facilities EMC has recently expanded its training facilities and this will enable it to offer additional skills-training courses. All programmes offered have been developed to cater for the needs of local commerce and industry and provide opportunities for residents of the local communities. The college has achieved this in conjunction with the departments of Education and Labour. The college offers courses in the schools of business, engineering, art and social sciences and occupational training. Partnerships such as the Model of Synergy with the Technical Learning Academy (TLA), a training centre of Volkswagen Group SA and with the Office of the Premier (OTP), have been formed to ensure a high standard of training takes place. New Venture Creation training for SMMEs, E-learning and accredited Institute of Certified Bookkeepers programmes are some of the latest options for training at the occupational school. Target markets The college faces tough challenges in providing for both urban and rural communities in the Eastern Cape. It serves communities within the Nelson Mandela metropole, while also serving outlying rural areas. The challenges here involve different levels of education, logistical problems such as transport, as well as the different needs of businesses in the different areas, i.e. rural areas are likely to require agricultural skills, while the urban-area businesses are likely to require more commercial or industrial skills. The college tries to strike as much of a balance here as possible.

A national body, Ex-Political Prisoners Committee, was established at a reunion gathering of ex-political prisoners on Robben Island in February, 1995. It was expressly formed to facilitate and maintain communication channels with ex-political prisoners (and ex-political prisoners with each other); address their plight and that of their dependants. For this clearly stated reason a trust, namely âMakana Trust' was established the following year, 1996. It was soon followed by the formation of a commercial entity, namely: Makana Investment Corporation... In February 1995 at a reunion gathering for former political prisoners, Comrade Nelson Mandela called for an initiative to help ex-political prisoners with their welfare and that of their dependants.
