Matchdeck Ltd is a UK registered company with its head office in London and an operations centre in Cape Town, South Africa.
The company is at the forefront of the big data and semantic web revolution. Our business matching engine Matchdeck demonstrates how this technology can transform the way companies across the global economy can build out new business networks.
Intrigued by the particular challenges and opportunities presented by the emerging business class of Africa, the founders decided to initially focus on this rapidly emerging economy.
Matchdeck.com is a semantic search and matching engine for business. It matches companies across the global supply chain and enables the user to establish new customer relationships and partnerships. The company works by developing a data profile or ‘semantic fingerprint’ of the company and then uses matching algorithms to connect the user with other companies. While the platform currently has an African focus it services companies of any region and sector.
The founders and senior directors of the company are serial entrepreneurs Richard Pembroke and Chris Pilling who have built a series of globally successful companies. They are supported by a talented operating management team across the UK and South Africa.
Chris Pilling has specialised in building online businesses, marketplaces and networks since the mid 1990s.
He co-founded Matchdeck in 2012 with the aim of revolutionising the way that companies build networks and establish new business partnerships. His aim was to combine data analytics, entity extraction techniques, linked data and semantic web technology in order to unravel the fundamental nature of business relationships. The result is Matchdeck - a new type of e-marketplace that allows companies to define what they are looking to achieve and for algorithms to search constantly for new business relationships.
Earlier in his career Chris founded a number of a companies including a magazine publishing company specialising in sports publishing which was sold to Independent Newspapers in 1995. Chris was then the Founder and CEO of Datanet Marketing Services - an internet technology and digital publishing company specialising in building online communities. Following the sale of Datanet in 1999, Chris became full time CEO of Complinet - a business he had co-founded in 1997. Complinet was an online intelligence provider for financial services regulatory professionals. Chris was the CEO of Complinet until its sale to Thomson Reuters in 2010. By this time the company was generating revenues of $35 million and employed 230 staff in 5 offices around the world. Chris stayed on as a senior executive of Thomson Reuters and ran its Compliance and Regulatory Risk division until November 2011.
In December 2012 Chris co-founded Frontier Market Intelligence Ltd rebranded in 2014 as Matchdeck.
Richard has co-founded several successful companies both in the UK and South Africa. They include Datanet Marketing Services Ltd that was sold in March 2000 to FTSE listed Eckoh Technologies and Rivals Digital Media (RDM), a digital publishing business with offices in London and Cape Town that was acquired by AIM listed UK Betting Plc in December 2003.
Richard has extensive experience in running businesses in Africa including two years managing Global Africa Network's interests in West Africa.
